Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring
Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring - Rates and Information
During my visit to La Fortuna, Costa Rica, I stayed two nights at the Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring. This hotel is extremely unique as it has only eleven rooms and is located on a family dairy farm. Each of the eleven rooms is a separate bungalow with a private bathroom and a balcony featuring a spectacular view. I was extremely impressed with the near-perfect reviews of this property and thought it would be a great place to stay during my time in La Fortuna. If the weather cooperates, you can even see the Arenal Volcano from your balcony.
The rate of my room was an unbelievable $87 per night. I couldn’t believe the value of this hotel, from the beautiful gardens to the refreshing pool. Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hot Springs is one of my favorite properties I’ve ever stayed at.
Now, there are a few things that you should know before you stay at this property. First, the hotel is not within walking distance of any of the restaurants in La Fortuna. There is a hotel restaurant by the pool, but to get to La Fortuna, you will need to take a $5-$10 Uber or taxi ride. Second, the gate to the hotel locks at 10:00 pm. If you are planning on arriving after ten, you will need to make arrangements with the front desk.
When I arrived, I was given a friendly greeting by the desk agent. He checked me in, gave me a tour of the grounds, and walked me to my room. With only eleven rooms, you will surely get the individualized attention you deserve at Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring.

My Room at Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring
Each of the bungalows at Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring is a separate building. There is parking in front of each room, and the beautiful gardens separating each bungalow give a feel of privacy.
There are four different types of bungalows at Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring, which can accommodate a single guest to a family of four. I chose a single room which only had a full-size bed. The bed was comfortable, but I did have one issue. Two of the wooden slates under the mattress were not the correct size, and if I shifted my weight, they would crash down to the floor. I had to put them back into place half a dozen times throughout my stay.
In the picture below, you can see the air conditioner above the bed. This unit was extremely powerful and kept my room nice and cool.
To the left of the bed is the bathroom. The bathroom had a toilet, sink, and walk-in shower. I chose to open the windows in the bathroom and keep the door closed. Doing so helped keep my bedroom cooler.
It is common in Costa Rica to not flush toilet paper down the toilet. Instead, the toilet paper should be thrown out in the garbage can next to the toilet. If you look below, you will see a white garbage can for the toilet paper.
The shower had excellent pressure and plenty of hot water. Since I was in the rainforest, and it was hot and humid, I typically didn’t use much hot water when showering.
The highlight of the room is the balcony that overlooks the farm and the Arenal Volcano. I spent quite a bit of time sitting on the balcony listening to the sounds of the rainforest.
If you look below, you can see part of the Arenal Volcano. It was amazing to be able to see the volcano from my balcony.
The family farm that is part of Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring is a dairy farm. In addition to views of the volcano, I also was able to enjoy watching a herd of cows.
Pool Area at Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring
To get to the pool, visitors walk through beautiful gardens. At Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring, there is one pool and one hot spring. The pool was kept quite cold, and despite an air temperature of around 80 degrees, I found that the pool quickly got chilly.
The hot spring is kept around 113 degrees and is fed by naturally warmed water. I found that the two complimented each other perfectly. When I got cold, I went to the hot spring, and then I would get warm and go back into the pool.
There is a bar attached to the hot spring. I do not drink alcohol but did get one of their delicious natural fruit drinks. The bar is staffed in the evening, and the pool is open until 10:00 pm. With only eleven rooms, the pool never gets overly crowded.
Each guest is given a pool towel at check-in. The pool towels must be returned to the front desk at check-out. Failure to do so will result in a $25 charge.
One of the best views of the Arenal Volcano is from the pool area. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate during my visit, and I was unable to get a photograph of the entire volcano.
The Restaurant at Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring
The restaurant at Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hotspring is located by the pool. I ate at the restaurant twice. All meals are charged to your room, and there is no option to pay immediately.
My first meal was Arroz con Pollo (chicken and rice), which was served with fries and a salad.
I also had beef nachos as a snack one evening before bed. Both meals at the restaurant were fairly good, although I enjoyed the food in La Fortuna better. If you have the option, I recommend eating at some of the wonderful restaurants in La Fortuna. This hotel is amazing for many reasons. One of them is not their restaurant.
If you do choose to visit the restaurant, be sure to get a natural fruit juice. The strawberry one was delicious.
