Krystal Grand Cancun

Krystal Grand Cancun - Rates and Information

Due to a blizzard that was going to hit the Twin Cities Metro Area on my departure date, I decided to leave a day early. The hotel I was staying at did not have any available rooms for my extra day, so I had to look for a place to stay for one night. I found a great rate for a premium room at the Krystal Grand Cancun on hotels.com. The cost for one night in a king room with a view was only $130.

In addition to having a great room with a view, the Krystal Grand Cancun has its own beach and multiple pools. The hotel had an all-inclusive option for an additional $100. I chose to decline that option and eat my meals out of the hotel.

My visit was during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the Krystal Grand Cancun had multiple COVID-19 precautions in place. Before I could enter the building, I had to sanitize my shoes and hands and have my temperature checked.

The Krystal Grand Cancun has an open-air hallway with all the rooms opening into a circular rotunda. The hotel is well designed, and the views from the interior are mesmerizing.

Checking In at the Krystal Grand Cancun

No one is allowed to enter the lobby to the Krystal Grand Cancun without a reservation.  Upon checking in, guests are issued a wrist band that has a plastic tag attached to it.  The tag is the room key and the wrist band gives the guest access to the grounds.  Without the wrist band, I would have constantly been stopped and asked why I was on the grounds.

A bellhop delivered my suitcase to my room.  Luckily I had a few pesos for a tip.  I would have been happy to take my own suitcase to my room but that did not appear to be an option.

Check-in was a fairly quick process.  In addition to filling out the normal paperwork, I had to fill out two forms proving I did not have any COVID-19 symptoms and have my temperature checked.  It took about ten minutes until I was in my room.

The Room - Krystal Grand Cancun

My room, a king room with a view, was spectacular. The king-size bed was comfortable, with soft sheets. There was a walk-in “rainshower style” shower that had great water pressure.

The highlight of the room was the balcony, which provided a stunning view of the Caribbean Sea. From the balcony, I could hear the waves crashing into the shoreline. That evening, I sat on the balcony and worked on uploading my photos and editing my website.

All the rooms open up towards the lobby.  I was on the 8th floor, which provided a unique perspective, especially at night.

The Pools - Krystal Grand Cancun

I did not go in the pools as I preferred to swim in the Caribbean Sea. The pool situation was sort of confusing. There were multiple pools, with one saying that it was only for “Adults” that were staying at the “Altitude Tower.” The Altitude Tower was also by Krystal Grand. I am not sure if I technically would have been allowed to use that pool, but there wasn’t anyone checking our guarding it.

The Beach - Krystal Grand Cancun

The highlight of my one day stay at the Krystal Grand Cancun was the access to the beautiful, white sand beach. With an air temperature of around 80°F, the weather was perfect for swimming in the Caribbean Sea. While the waterfront is public, the hotel owns the sandy beach around it. One of the perks of having a hotel with beach access is that I did not constantly get harassed by people trying to sell everything from food and drinks to a beach chair or umbrella.

The hotel provided towels, chairs, and also had little cabanas. I am not sure if the cabanas were free as I was not interested in one. Once in the water, I walked out at least 100 yards into the Caribbean Sea and could still easily stand.

I brought my new waterproof/underwater camera with me and was able to take a few pictures from the water, looking back towards the shore. The beach was a great place to relax and cool off in the hot sun.
