Route type: A mix of local streets and a bike/pedestrian path (with a few split points).

Is it Possible to Walk from Lesce-Bled Station to Lake Bled
Is it possible to walk from Lesce-Bled Station to Lake Bled? That was the exact question I asked myself as I set out to see one of Slovenia’s most beautiful attractions. Based on my research at the time, the walk from Lesce-Bled Station to Lake Bled was just over five kilometers. It’s a long walk, but yes — it is possible to walk from Lesce-Bled Station to Lake Bled.
Before I get into the details, it’s worth knowing that there’s a closer train station: Bled Jezero Station. Bled Jezero is generally closer to Lake Bled than Lesce-Bled Station, and the walk to the lake can be shorter and easier depending on where you’re heading around the shoreline.
The only reason I walked from Lesce-Bled Station is because of maintenance work on the tracks. With trains only running from Ljubljana as far as Jesenice, I wasn’t able to reach Bled Jezero Station on the day of my trip.

How to Walk from Lesce-Bled Station to Lake Bled
I visited Lake Bled in December 2023, and my goal was to reach the lake as soon as the sun came up. Because of the track work mentioned above, trains were only running from Ljubljana as far as Jesenice. I took an early morning train from Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital city, to Lesce-Bled Station, arriving just after 8:00 am. Even though there was bus service from Lesce-Bled Station to the town of Bled, I decided to walk.
The first step is to cross the train tracks and walk through the small town of Lesce by following Route 635. It took me about 20 minutes to walk from Lesce-Bled Station through Lesce. After that, Route 635 runs into Route 209. Along Route 209, there’s a bike/pedestrian path that should lead toward Lake Bled. This part of the walk included some really nice scenery, including a bridge crossing over the Sava River.
There were a few points where the path split, but the correct direction was marked with an arrow and the word “Bled.”
During my walk in December 2023, I ran into a detour on the route toward Lake Bled. The detour began just after the River Camping Bled Campground and required turning onto Ljubljanska Cesta.
Eventually, I reached the top and walked through the small town of Koritno, and then I was back on my way toward Lake Bled. The rest of the route was flatter and cut across farmland. There were bus stops along the way, but I was determined to complete the full walk from Lesce-Bled Station to Lake Bled.
Because of the detour, the walk added about 3 more kilometers. By the time Bled Castle came into view, I had already walked well beyond the original distance I expected.
At that point, I was really regretting my choice. My legs were sore, and my back was aching from carrying my backpack. Still, once I reached the town of Bled and finally Lake Bled, I realized I’d seen parts of Slovenia I would have completely missed if I had taken the bus or taxi from Lesce-Bled Station.
So here’s my advice: yes, it is possible to walk from Lesce-Bled Station to Lake Bled, and it can be a picturesque walk. But with the detour, it took me almost two hours to cover a distance of over seven kilometers. I’ll let you decide whether you want to make the walk from Lesce-Bled Station to Lake Bled, or choose a faster option.
Whether you walk from Lesce-Bled Station or use another method to reach Lake Bled, it’s absolutely worth visiting. If you go, be sure to see Bled Castle, St. Martin’s Parish Church, and Bled Island. In the center of Bled Island is another church known as the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary.
After visiting the main sights, I also walked the entire perimeter of Lake Bled. Adding that loop to the distance I had already walked put me at over 21 kilometers for the day.
I have a separate page highlighting my time visiting Lake Bled.
Better Ways to Get to Lake Bled
Taking the Bus
I did not walk back to Lesce-Bled Station, and I didn’t even walk as far as Bled Jezero Station. Instead, I took the bus back to Ljubljana Station.
Bled Bus Station is located just a few hundred meters from the shoreline of Lake Bled. When I visited (December 2023), a ticket on the Arriva bus cost €3. Not only was the bus stop close to the lake, but it also felt cheaper and faster than going back by train. I was back at Ljubljana Station in just over an hour.
Taking the Train
Another good option is taking the train to Bled Jezero Station instead. From Bled Jezero, it’s a shorter walk to Lake Bled than from Lesce-Bled Station, depending on your route and where you’re trying to end up at the lake.
If you can only take the train to Lesce-Bled Station, you can also take a bus from Lesce-Bled Station to Lake Bled. When I checked schedules around my trip, these buses appeared to run every hour or every 30 minutes, depending on the time of day (always double-check the current timetable).
Traveling by Car
Finally, if you have a car, driving is likely the easiest way to reach Lake Bled. From Ljubljana to Bled by car, it should take about 45 minutes to cover roughly 50 kilometers.
Another way to see Lake Bled is by taking a tour. I’ve linked four tour options from nearby major cities. Please note that I am an affiliate of Viator. If you purchase a package or tour using one of my links, I will receive a small commission at no additional cost to you.
