Novotel Taoyuan International Airport - Information and Rates

After flying for almost 30 hours, I knew the last thing I would want to do after clearing immigration and customs would be to try to figure out how to get to the Taipei City Center. I decided to book a hotel right at the airport so I could get as much sleep as possible and wake-up early the next day. The Novotel Taoyuan Airport was the highest-rated airport hotel, and it did not disappoint.

Even though the price of the hotel was high for the area (NT$4,950 or $162), it definitely was the right choice.

Getting to the Novotel was simple as there was a shuttle that departed a few times an hour. From Terminal 1, it was easy to find. I simply followed the signs for Hotel/City Busses and met the shuttle at Bus Stop #1. Check-in was well staffed and took only a few minutes, and within 60 minutes of deplaning, I was in my room and getting ready for bed.

Standard King Room at the Novotel Taoyuan International Airport

The Standard King Room was very modern with a super comfortable bed.  My room’s bathroom had a separate room for the toilet, a nice large sink, and a rain style shower.  There was also a minibar with items for purchase and two complimentary bottles of water.  The bottled water was appreciated because I have read many reports that the water in Taiwan should not be consumed without boiling it first.  One final feature worth noting, the Novotel had universal power outlets that could take any electrical plug.  The universal power outlet would be especially helpful for travelers simply making a layover in Taipei.

After waking up at 3:30 a.m. Monday and flying across the International Date Line it was now 11:00 p.m Tuesday.  I was so tired that I was asleep within minutes and slept well through the night.

Novotel Taoyuan International Airport - Breakfast

The next morning I woke up around 7:00 a.m very hungry.  I had not had anything to eat since the excellent Cathay Pacific meal.  The Novotel had two buffets, which are both the same, that serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  They are located at opposite ends of the hotel.  My breakfast was not included in my hotel package, so I paid NT$650 ($21) for breakfast.  In Taiwan, the tip is included in the bill.  Breakfast featured both Western and Taiwanese options, and I had some of each.  My favorite items included the Soy Sauce Pork, Hash Browns, Stuffed Dumplings, and Sausage.  I made three trips to the buffet and then returned to my room to organize and get ready to check out.  To get to Taipei Station, I had to take the shuttle then back to the airport (which only takes a few minutes) and then take an express train.  I definitely would stay at the Novotel again if I were arriving in Taipei late at night.
