How to Walk Across the Tromsø Bridge
One of my first adventures in Tromsø was walking across the Tromsø Bridge as I headed to the Fjellheisen Cable Car. Although it stretches over 3,399 feet, the Tromsø Bridge is an easy walk, with a dedicated bike path on the north side and a walking path on the south side. For the best experience, use the south side pedestrian walkway while crossing the bridge.
What You’ll See from the Tromsø Bridge
Halfway across the bridge, you’ll find fantastic views of Tromsø City, the bustling Tromsø Harbor, and the snow-capped Arctic landscape. While I stopped frequently for photos, the entire walk took less than 20 minutes. Despite visiting in winter, I was surprised to see numerous locals using bicycles on the bridge’s bike path.
The walk itself is not challenging, but the bridge can get slippery, especially in winter. On several occasions, I had to hold onto the handrail for extra stability, but I found that the city keeps the pedestrian paths well-maintained. On my return, I saw the city’s snowplows in action, clearing the walkway to ensure it remained accessible
Towards the end of the bridge, there’s a great photo spot to capture the stunning Arctic Cathedral with the mainland’s picturesque coastline in the background.
