The island nation of Taiwan is located off the coast of mainland China. Tourists come to Taiwan to experience its unique urban architecture, friendly culture, tropical climate, and beautiful landscape. Below are my ten favorite photos from my three days spent in Taiwan. Most of my time was concentrated around the Taipei area, with a day trip to Taroko Gorge National Park. My photos will reflect those areas. I hope you enjoy “Buzzin Around Taiwan in 10 Photos.”

Photo #1 - Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Park - Taipei, Taiwan
During the Chinese Civil War, Mao Tse-Tung’s Communists fought Chiang Kai Shek’s Nationals. After losing the war, Chiang and the Nationalists fled to Taiwan, which became known as the Republic of China. Chiang was Taiwan’s first president and is memorialized at Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall and Park. I took this picture from the steps of the hall, looking towards the entry gate to the park. Photo #2 - A View From the Swallow Grotto Trail - Taroko Gorge National Park
One of the most beautiful natural wonders in Taiwan is Taroko Gorge National Park. I took a day trip to the gorge from Taipei. One of my favorite trails was the Swallow Grotto. I took this picture from the road, looking towards a suspension bridge. Visitors can only cross the bridge with a special permit. To learn more about Taroko Gorge National Park, click HERE.
Photo #3 - The View from the Observation Deck of Taipei 101
At one point, Taipei 101 was the world’s tallest building. As of December 2020, Taipei 101 is now the 10th tallest building. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it is home to the world’s fastest elevator. I took this picture from the observation deck. I liked how the shadow of Taipei 101 was visible. Photo #5 - A Taiwanese Macaque - Taroko Gorge National Park
During a trip to Taroko Gorge National Park, I became stuck when the road was closed for one hour due to construction. As I waited for the road to reopen, I noticed the trees swaying back and forth. In the trees was a troop of Taiwanese Macaques. I felt fortunate to capture this stunning image with my zoom lens. To learn more about the monkeys of Taroko Gorge National Park, click HERE.

On the way back from Taroko Gorge National Park, I had a few hours before my flight from Hualien back to Taipei. I took the public bus to Qixingtan Beach with a friend I had made at Taroko Gorge. Photo #7 - 2/28 Memorial Peace Park - Taipei, Taiwan
Upon arrival in Taipei, I had a few hours of free time before I could check into my hotel. While walking towards Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Park, I came across the 2/28 Peace Memorial Park. The park memorializes the victims of the February 28, 1947 uprising. I took this picture from the main memorial looking out into the park. Anytime I visit a foreign country, I always try to go to the top of the tallest building. Taipei 101, as mentioned in an earlier photograph, was once the tallest building in the world. The colorful streets of Taipei are bustling with pedestrians, mopeds, and cars. While some of the areas are full of tourists, I enjoyed walking in some of the non-tourist areas as well.
