Sky City Auckland

Why the Sky City Hotel is a Good Place to Stay

Before I visited Auckland, New Zealand, I spent some time researching if the Sky City Hotel is a good place to stay. My research told me that the Sky City Hotel in Auckland is attached to the Sky City Casino and Sky Tower. While it was nice to have the dining and entertainment options that the casino provided, I mostly chose the Sky City Hotel due to its location. The cost of my room at the Sky City Hotel was NZ$611 ($379) for three nights.

How are the Rooms at the Sky City Hotel

My room at the Sky City Hotel was a Premium King Room and featured a king-size bed, couch, desk with a work area and a 40-inch TV. The bathroom has a rain-style shower with a removable wand.

The three days I spent in Auckland were the final days of a two-week trip throughout Australia and New Zealand. I was exhausted and spent more time in the room than I normally would. The room was extremely comfortable for lounging around, and I was able to get some website work done while sitting at the desk and later on the couch.

The first night I attempted to purchase tickets to the New Zealand All Blacks rugby match versus the Australia Wallabies. Every time I thought I was able to purchase tickets online, I would get disconnected. I ended up watching the game in the room. The TV had a great picture and sound, and I was able to enjoy the game despite not being there in person.

Is the Observation Deck of the Sky Tower Worth Visiting?

The Sky City Hotel is located next to the Sky Tower, and I found myself trying to decide if it was worth going to the observation deck of the Sky Tower.

The Sky Tower - Auckland, New Zealand

The Sky Tower is the tallest building in Auckland and provides a 360-degree view of the greater Auckland area. My hotel was attached to the entrance to the Sky Tower, which made it extremely easy to visit. I was disappointed to learn that despite staying at the Sky City Hotel that there was no discounted ticket for the Sky Tower.

The observation deck of the Sky Tower was not crowded, and I was able to take my time lining up my photos. Some of the most impressive views were of the Commercial Harbour, City Centre, and Rangitoto Island. I also was able to zoom in on Eden Park Stadium, which was the location of the All Blacks Rugby Match that I watched the night before.

Overall, I spent about an hour at the Sky Tower Auckland and enjoyed the stunning views of the greater Auckland area. Below are the photos I took from the Observation Deck of the Sky Tower.
