Aeromar Airlines – Cancun to Villahermosa
About My Flight on Aeromar Airlines from Cancun to Villahermosa
I like flying less common airlines that are unknown to passengers outside of the country I am in. My flight to Villahermosa from Cancun allowed me the perfect opportunity to review Aeromar. Aeromar is a Mexican airline that operates ATR Turbo Prop aircraft. Surprisingly, Aeromar flies both domestically and internationally. During my check-in, passengers were also checking in for a flight to Havana, Cuba. I purposely booked this flight so I could review the flight on Aeromar from Cancun to Villahermosa.
The cost of the flight on Aeromar from Cancun to Villahermosa was just over $130. I selected the premium ticket, which came with 25 kg of checked luggage, a carry-on bag, and a seat selection.

Getting to Cancun International Airport
To get to my flight on Aeromar from Cancun to Villahermosa, I had to travel from Isla Mujeres. The ferry from Isla Mujeres to Puerto Juarez was late, and I arrived at the airport one hour and twenty minutes before my departure. Bag check-in stops sixty minutes before departure and luckily arrived at the check-in counter ten minutes before check-in closed.
Aeromar Airlines - The Check-in Process
There were quite a few people at the check-in counter as Aeromar had a second flight scheduled from Cancun to Havana, Cuba. I showed my passport, weighed my suitcase, and collected my boarding pass.
Security at Cancun International Airport is always slow. With only 20 minutes until boarding, I was able to push my way through the mass of people and get in the queue. After about fifteen minutes in the security line, I was inside the secure area with five minutes to spare.
As I walked past the food court, I noticed there was no line at Panda Express. I quickly purchased a Panda Bowl with orange chicken and chow mien and went to my gate.
Aeromar Airlines - The Boarding Process
The agent called our flight within five minutes of arriving. It was just enough time to finish my lunch. Our flight was on an ATR Turbo Prop, so to get to our plane, we had to get onto a shuttle bus. The bus departed about fifteen minutes later, and after a short drive, we arrived at our aircraft.
Aeromar only boards from the rear of the plane, so I recommend selecting a seat at the back of the plane. I know doing so goes against logic, but if you have a seat towards the back, you will be first off the plane.
Boarding took a long time despite the flight being more than half empty. A passenger who was traveling to Havana, Cuba somehow got on our plane, and the gate agents were trying to figure out why we had an extra passenger. During this time, the plane was hot and humid, and it was painfully hard to breathe through my COVID-19 mask while waiting. I was impressed that no passengers took their masks off during this time.
Aeromar Airlines - The Seat and Service
My seat on the flight on Aeromar from Cancun to Villahermosa was seat 12C. Luckily, there was no one next to me on my flight. I am not sure if I would have fit if a passenger were seated next to me.
I always find these ATR Turbo Props to be a super smooth ride. As the plane took off, the cabin quickly cooled down. About twenty minutes into the flight attendants became a drink service.
There were plenty of drink choices including, coke, juices, and water. I chose to go with apple juice. In addition to drink service, we also each received a small packaged ham sandwich. The sandwich was quite good.
My Thoughts on Flying Aeromar
By the time I finished my sandwich, we had already begun our descent into Villahermosa Airport. Overall, I enjoyed my trip on Aeromar from Cancun to Villahermosa. All of the employees I interacted with were polite and helpful. If you are considering flying domestically in Mexico and looking for a cheap flight, I recommend flying Aeromar.
