Utqiagvik Accommodations – Where to Stay in Barrow
Are There Hotels in Utqiagvik?
Utqiagvik, Alaska (formerly Barrow), is a destination unlike any other. As the northernmost city in the United States, it promises a chance to witness the breathtaking Arctic Ocean, experience the otherworldly phenomenon of the midnight sun, and connect with the vibrant culture of the Inupiat people. With its unique offerings, Utqiagvik naturally raises the question: what are the available Utqiagvik accommodations?
While Utqiagvik might not be your typical tourist destination, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the range of options available. Three main hotels cater to visitors seeking different experiences: the King Eider Inn, the Top of the World Hotel, and Latitude 71 B&B. Each offers distinct features to consider when planning your unforgettable Utqiagvik adventure.
In the next sections, we’ll delve deeper into each of these hotels. We’ll explore their unique amenities, styles, and what makes them stand out. Whether you prioritize comfort, proximity to specific attractions, or a social atmosphere, there’s a perfect Utqiagvik accommodation waiting to welcome you.
The Arctic Hotel
During my time in Utqiagvik, I walked past the building pictured below. It appears that the Arctic Hotel was once an option as well, although it has likely been closed for many years. I struggled to find any information about this property and am not sure when or why it closed.

King Eider Inn
A perfect choice for my Utqiagvik adventure was the King Eider Inn. Located just steps from Barrow’s Wiley Post-Will Rogers Memorial Airport (a two-minute walk!), it eliminated the need to navigate the town’s dirt roads with luggage.
Below is a list of pros and cons of staying at the King Eider Inn.
King Eider Inn Pros
- Fast WiFi
- TV with DVD player in every room
- Mini fridge in every room
- Private bathroom
- Blackout blinds/curtains
- Located within a two-minute walk of the airport
- Small hotel with a homelike experience
King Eider Inn Cons
- No restaurant
- The front desk closes at 9:00 pm
- Small lobby/sitting area
- 15-minute walk from most attractions and restaurants
The King Eider Inn offers a variety of accommodations, including standard rooms, kitchenette rooms, and even a presidential suite. My stay was in a standard room featuring two comfortable double beds, a table, and a TV. To ensure a good night’s sleep despite the midnight sun, all rooms at the Inn are equipped with blackout blinds.
Comfort extends beyond the bed at the King Eider Inn. All rooms boast private bathrooms featuring convenient walk-in showers. The presidential suite adds an in-room jacuzzi for an extra touch of luxury. Entertainment is also well-covered: every room comes equipped with a TV with a DVD player, and Starlink provides high-speed Wi-Fi to keep you connected.
Unwind after a day of exploring in the King Eider Inn’s inviting lobby, a haven of relaxation after Utqiagvik’s adventures. Remember, the hotel practices a “no shoes” policy to keep the cozy space clean, as the town’s gravel roads tend to be quite dusty. With all it offers, I highly recommend the King Eider Inn for your stay.
Top of the World Hotel
The Top of the World Hotel is the largest and best-known hotel in Utqiagvik. Located near the iconic Utqiagvik Whale Bone Arch, this three-star hotel has 70 rooms and is the only hotel in Utqiagvik with an in-house restaurant. I did not stay at the Top of the World Hotel during my visit, although I did eat at the restaurant.
I enjoyed eating at the Niġġivikput restaurant. In addition to having great food, the tables were by large glass windows that offered a great view of the Arctic Ocean. The Top of the World Hotel felt much busier than the King Eider Inn. In addition to a 24-hour front desk, it appeared that there were always people coming and going from the Top of the World Hotel. The hotel also offers tours of Utqiagvik and provides an airport shuttle for their guests.
Latitude 71 B & B
While I wasn’t able to explore Latitude 71 B&B in person, their website paints a picture of a comfortable stay in Utqiagvik. They offer a variety of rooms, including twins, queens, and even a king suite with a private bathroom. Like other accommodations in Utqiagvik, Latitude 71 boasts high-speed Starlink internet for all guests.
The B&B’s convenient location near the Inupiat Heritage Center makes it a perfect spot to explore the region’s rich cultural heritage.
