With over 2,500 miles of length, Chile provides tourists with the unique opportunity to visit various topographies and climates. There is so much to see including the Atacama Desert, Andes Mountains, and Patagonia. During my visit, I focused most of my time near the capital city of Santiago as well as the Atacama Desert. The Pacific resort city of Valparaiso is located about two hours from the capital city of Santiago. Valparaiso is famous for its colorful streets and beautiful bluffs. This picture was taken about a third of the way up one of the bluffs. To learn more about Valparaiso, click HERE.
Chile’s the Atacama Desert is one of the driest places in the world. During my first day in the Atacama, I took a tour of the Valle de la Muerte (Death Valley). Photo #5 - The Chaxa Laguna - Atacama Desert, Chile
The Chaxa Laguna is part of the salt flat known as the Salar de Atacama and is known for its beautiful flamingos. The flamingos feed on brine shrimp that live in the brackish water. During my visit to Santiago, Chile, the Chilean soccer team was coming off a thrilling victory in the COPA América. As a result of winning the championship, their national stadium, Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos, was open for touring. The tiny town of San Pedro de Atacama is known as the Gateway to the Atacama Desert. Located two hours from Calama Airport, San Pedro de Atacama has plenty of hotels, restaurants, and shops. Lake Miscanti is one of the High Elevation Lagunas of the Atacama Desert. During my visit to the Atacama, I took a day tour where Lake Miscanti was one of the stops. During a tour of Lake Miscanti in the Atacama Desert, our driver stopped so we could photograph these four beautiful Guanacos. The picture opportunity was enhanced by a setting daytime moon. This photograph was taken just a few steps off the road.
