Amsterdam's Museum Quarter

About Amsterdam's Museum Quarter

Amsterdam’s Museum Quarter is located on the outskirts of the city and is easily accessible by boat or street trolly.  I chose to take the Hop On/Hop Off Canal Boat to reach the museum quarter.  Two of the main attractions in the museum quarter are the Van Gough Museum and the Rijksmuseum.  Amsterdam’s Museum Quarter also includes a vast public park named the Vondelpark.  The area around Amsterdam’s Museum Quarter is a great place for walking around and relaxing.

Amsterdam's Museum Quarter - The Van Gogh Museum

I went to the Van Gogh Museum and walked around looking at the various works of art.  Some of the most interesting paintings included different self-portraits, the Yellow House, the Potato Eaters, and Sunflowers.  I am not an art person, but it was still fun to walk around the modern museum and look at all the historic art.

Prices below are accurate as of July 2023.

Amsterdam's Museum Quarter - The Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum is the Netherland’s most famous museum.  I did not go in the Rijksmuseum as I did not feel I had enough time to appreciate it fully.  I did enjoy posing in front of the giant “I Am Amsterdam” sign in front of it.  Unfortunately, the “I Am Amsterdam” sign was removed as it was becoming a “selfie spot.”  I really do not understand why the sign was removed.  Why wouldn’t the city want people to visit the museum quarter?

The Rijksmuseum is famous for its collection of Rembrandt paintings.  It is home to “The Night Watchman” which is Rembrandt’s most famous painting.  There is also a statue of Rembrandt outside the Rijksmuseum.

Prices are accurate as of June 2023.

Amsterdam's Museum Quarter - The Vondelpark

There is a Washington DC National Mall feeling to the Museum Quarter.  All around the museums are grassy areas where people can sit and hang out. Within walking distance of the Museum Quarter is the Vondelpark which is a giant public park.  When I was there, the Vondelpark was in full bloom.  Even if you are not into artwork and museums, the Museum Quarter is worth a visit.  You do not have to go into the museums to appreciate the area.
