About My Trips to Africa

Although I have only made one trip to the African continent, I was able to visit a few of the continent’s most famous places. I began my African trip in Morocco, where I explored the coastal city of Casablanca before taking the train to Marrakech. After spending a few nights in the Medina, I ventured through the High Atlas Mountains into the vast Sahara Desert. A two-day tour included spending a night at a Berber Camp in the Sahara.

From Morocco, I flew to Kenya, where I went on a three-day safari to Maasai Mara National Reserve. I spent two nights in tent camps while spending every minute of my free time observing the majestic African animals, including the “Big Five.” Toward the end of my trip, I even was able to visit a Maasai Village and take place in a ceremonial dance.

Finally, I flew to Cairo and spent the last few days of my African adventure touring the wonders of Egypt. I began with a day tour of Luxor. A highlight was definitely the Valley of the Kings. It was surreal to be walking through the tombs of Egyptian royalty. Following Luxor, I spent my last day visiting the Pyramids of Giza and the lesser-known Pyramids of Saqqara and Dashur.

I hope to one day return to the African continent as I know there is much more to see.

Cairo was my entry point, a city that thrummed with a chaotic energy I couldn’t resist. But the true call of Egypt resided in its ancient whispers. So, I wasted no time and headed south to Luxor, where history unfolded before my very eyes.

Descending into the tombs of the Valley of the Kings was an experience unlike any other. The stories etched on their walls seemed to come alive, transporting me back to a glorious era. Standing before the colossal statues of Memnon, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe wash over me. These silent sentinels whispered tales of a bygone era, their weathered faces etched with the passage of time.

Luxor and Karnak’s temples were simply breathtaking. Their sheer scale and grandeur left me speechless. I wandered through their halls, imagining the rituals and ceremonies that once took place within these sacred walls.

Cairo reeled me back in with the iconic pyramids of Giza. But there was a whole other side to the story. Curiosity tugged at me, leading me further south to Saqqara and Dahshur. These lesser-known pyramids held their own secrets, waiting to be unraveled. Exploring them felt like a journey into the unknown, a chance to brush shoulders with a part of history often overlooked.

My Kenyan adventure soared into action with a fantastic Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Nairobi. The real magic, however, unfolded after touching down in Nairobi. I embarked on a three-day safari in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and let me tell you, it was incredible!

The reserve pulsed with life. Lions, cheetahs, elephants – the animal parade was endless! Giraffes stretched for leaves, hippos wallowed in the mud, zebras grazed in herds, and wildebeest thundered across the plains. One unforgettable moment – a pride of lions stalking prey, straight out of a documentary!

Now, the journey to the reserve wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. Nairobi traffic can be intense, and the final stretch on a bumpy dirt road tested our resolve. But let me tell you, witnessing this magnificent wildlife spectacle made every bump absolutely worth it!

This wasn’t just a wildlife extravaganza, though. I ventured into a Maasai village, an eye-opening experience that offered a glimpse into their fascinating culture and way of life. They even invited me to join in a ceremonial dance – an unforgettable cultural exchange!

Kenya offered a perfect blend of wildlife encounters, cultural immersion, and a touch of adventure. This trip ranks high on my travel list, for sure!

Morocco’s magic unfolded from the bustling streets of Casablanca to the star-studded silence of the Sahara. My adventure kicked off with a city tour, where the grandeur of the Hassan II Mosque left me awestruck.

Next, a train ride whisked me to Marrakech, a city where I purposely got lost (well, sort of!) Wandering the vibrant Medina was an experience in itself, a feast for the senses. But the true enchantment began in the Sahara.

Trekking across the golden dunes on camelback was unforgettable. Imagine it – the vastness of the desert stretching before you, the rhythmic stride of the camel, and the sun painting the sky in vibrant hues. The highlight? Spending a cozy night at a Berber camp, gazing up at a million twinkling Moroccan stars.

This trip was a kaleidoscope of cityscapes, rich culture, and breathtaking desert beauty – an unforgettable journey that will stay with me forever.

While exploring the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, I took a quick peek across the border into Tanzania. It was more of a novelty to add Tanzania to my travel map, but it definitely sparked a curiosity to delve deeper in the future. This trip was all about the wonders of the Maasai Mara, but Tanzania is definitely on my list for a more in-depth exploration someday!
